Laundry Detergent

I have wanted to make my own laundry detergent for a while now, but was a little hesitant because I am pretty picky about how our laundry smells. I have fallen in love with our Thieves cleaner and have cleaned everything in our house with it from the floors, to the bathrooms, and kitchen. So, when I found this recipe for laundry detergent that used Thieves cleaner I decided to finally take the plunge!

Laundry Detergent

3/4 Cup Super Washing Soda

1 1/2 cups baking soda

3/4 cup castile soap

1/4 cup Thieves cleaner

In an empty container (I used a 5 gallon bucket) add washing soda. Add 6 cups very hot water in bucket and stir until dissolved. Add 1.5 cups baking soda to mixture and stir. Add enough hot water to make 2 gallons. Add 3/4 cup castile soap and stir mixture. Add 1/4 cup Thieves cleaner and stir. Let sit overnight. It will end up looking chunky… This is a good thing 🙂 Use 1/2 cup per load of laundry!

I was pleasantly surprised by the results! I washed towels first to try it out, because I am a weirdo  particular about how our towels smell and have always bought a separate detergent for them because I need them to smell super clean! It was a total mom fail and success at the same time! Life got busy and the towels were left in the wash overnight… which usually means they mildew and need to be rewashed! But guess what…. they didn’t mildew! Crazy right? The towels were dried with our wool dryer balls and smelled so fresh!!

Another great thing about this recipe..It was cheap and easy to make and will last a long time. I cut the recipe down so it would fit in my cute 2 gallon dispenser I got on clearance at Wal-mart and it still made 64 loads!
